New Laptop
So after having torturously removing a portable computer from my life, I realized that I really cannot live without one. With my new job, I have a lot of freedom to work whenever and whereever I like. Exercising that freedom, though, would require a powerful, mobile development workstation; and as an American, I love exercising my freedoms. As you can see, this was politically motivated.
I don’t know if you followed that link above, but I took the commentor’s advice and went out and bought myself “a kick-ass, super powered, wide screen, blazen machine.” And now, like a male lion flaunting the mate he has won, taunting his peers into challenging him because he knows they will lose, here are the stats:
- HP Pavillion ZD7000
- P4 3.0 GHz Hyper-threaded
- 1 GB RAM
- 60 GB HDD
- 17” widescreen display
- Full keyboard
- GeForce mumblemumble Video Card
- Built-in Harman/Kardon speakers
- Built-in digital media card reader
- Built-in 802.11g wireless
- Built-in chick magnet
- This is a laptop here, people!
I have only discovered a few minor problems since purchasing it. First, the digital media card reader appears to be read-only, which is ghey. Second, the thing weighs in at over nine pounds! The weight wasn’t really important, though, since most of the time I just need to be able to take it with me. Finally, the battery life is pretty skimpy, as can be expected from all the horsepower in it. I was able to squeeze almost two hours out of it on a recent trip, but I bought an extra battery just in case.
Just so you can turn a little bit greener, here is a cap of my desktop. Bring it on.
